Scholarships

The Olathe Public Schools Foundation, in cooperation with private donors, continues support of Olathe students after they have graduated by offering college scholarships. The scholarships are competitive, and are only available through online application unless otherwise specified.

You will be asked to create an account or log in with an existing account if not otherwise logged in. You may save your application and return at a later time for completion and submission by logging back into your account.

Amelia Shears Scholarship

Olathe High School, Class of 1953 has established a scholarship in honor of Mrs. Amelia W. Shears. Mrs. Shears taught English, Spanish, Latin and French for 47 years in Olathe schools.

Eligible Students:
Olathe high school seniors who plan to pursue a career in education. Applicants must demonstrate financial need.
Amount of Scholarship:
One student will be selected to receive a $500 scholarship.

Amy Pierron Performing Arts Scholarship Award

This award was created by the Olathe Junior Service League and pays tribute to one of their members, Amy Pierron, who passed away in 2000. Amy was an active volunteer, serving on the Board of Directors for the Olathe Community Theatre Association.  She also helped found and promote the first Hidden Glen Arts Festival, and helped organize benefits for the Deaf Cultural Center and the Olathe Area Chamber of Commerce. She was a member of the Drama Mamas, a group that helps locate resources, props and costumes for high school theatrical productions.

Brent Cherry Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship was established in memory of Brent Cherry, an Olathe elementary teacher and library media specialist. One thousand dollars will be awarded to an Olathe North High School senior who plans to study elementary education at Kansas State University or Pittsburg State University.

Olathe North High School senior with a minimum GPA of 3.0 who plans to study elementary education at K-State or Pittsburg State.

One Olathe North student will be selected to receive a $1,000 scholarship.

Brogden Family Debate and Forensics Scholarship

These scholarships were established as a tribute to Josh Anderson, Olathe Northwest's former Debate and Forensics coach. Two $1,000 scholarships, one for excellence in Debate and one for excellence in Forensics, will be awarded at each Olathe high school this spring. Olathe West seniors will become eligible beginning Spring, 2019.

Eligible Students:
Olathe high school seniors who participated in their high school Debate program or Forensics program and are planning to attend college.
Amount of Scholarship:
Two Olathe seniors at each high school (one debate, one forensics) will be selected to receive a $1,000 scholarship.

Brogden Family Human Services Scholarship

This scholarship was established by the Brogden family as a tribute to the outstanding Family and Consumer Sciences program at Olathe Northwest. One $1,500 scholarship will be awarded to an Olathe Northwest High School senior who took the Community Connections course and plans to major in a Human Services field.

Olathe Northwest seniors who have taken the Community Connections course plus one or more additional courses in the Family, Community, and Consumer Services career pathway at Olathe Northwest and who plan to attend either an accredited community college or a four-year college or university, and major in a Human Services field.

One Olathe Northwest student will be selected to receive a $1,500 scholarship.

Brogden Family Student Naturalist Scholarship

This scholarship was established by the Brogden family as a tribute to the outstanding Student Naturalist program at Olathe Northwest. One $1,500 scholarship will be awarded to an Olathe Northwest High School senior who took the Student Naturalist course and plans to major in an animal science related field.

Eligible Students:
Olathe Northwest seniors who have taken the Student Naturalist course plus three other science courses at Olathe Northwest and who plan to attend either an accredited community college or a four-year college or university, and major in an animal science field.

Brogden Family Visual Arts Scholarship

This scholarship was established by the Brogden family as a tribute to the outstanding visual arts program at Olathe Northwest. Two $1,000 scholarships will be awarded to Olathe Northwest High School seniors who participated in the Visual Arts program.

Eligible Students:
Olathe Northwest seniors who have taken at least two courses in visual arts at Olathe Northwest and who plan to attend either an accredited community college or a four-year college or university, and major/minor in an art related pathway.

Bustillo Scholarship

The Bustillo family, with ongoing support from the Olathe ELL Advisory Council has established a scholarship benefitting students who participate in the Olathe District Schools’ ELL program.

Eligible Students:
Olathe high school seniors who have participated in the district's ELL (English language learners) program and who plan to attend post-secondary schooling or training. Applicants must demostrate financial need.
Amount of Scholarship:

Cale Miller Memorial Scholarship

Cale Miller was a 2007 graduate of Olathe Northwest High School where he was a member of the football and track and field teams. He also played trumpet in the marching and jazz bands.  In February 2011, he joined the Army, where he was a member of Bravo Company, 4th Battalion, 23rd Infantry Regiment, 2nd Stryker Brigade Combat Team, stationed out of Fort Lewis, Wash. He served his country with honor and paid the ultimate price for our freedom.  In his memory, the American Legion Riders, Post 153, Olathe have established this scholarship with the Olathe Public Schools Foundation.

Olathe Northwest seniors who have a 2.5 or higher GPA, who desire to continue his or her education after high school, and who have a least one parent or grandparent who is actively serving in the military or is a military veteran.

Conner Taylor Memorial Raven Award Scholarship

Friends and family of Conner Taylor established this annual scholarship in his loving memory to provide a scholarship for the member of the Olathe Northwest baseball team who is selected to receive the Conner Taylor Memorial Raven Award each year.

Eligible Students:
Graduating senior at Olathe Northwest High School who is a varsity member of the Olathe Northwest baseball team with plans to continue their education at an accredited institution of higher learning, exhibits team leadership qualities, shows outstanding drive and determination in athletic competition, provides inspiration to their team, and helps teammates reach their highest potential.
Amount of Scholarship:
The winner of the Conner Taylor Memorial Raven Award will be receive a $1,000 scholarship

Green Scholarship

This scholarship was established in memory of Ronald Max Green and Tulsa Lea Green to provide academic scholarships to students graduating from the high schools in Olathe District Schools who choose to pursue a career in instrumental music education. The Olathe Public Schools Foundation will award a Green Scholarship annually to at least one graduating senior of an Olathe high school.

Gwen and Gary Poss AVID Scholarship

This scholarship was established as a tribute to Gwen and Gary Poss by the Olathe Northwest High School staff and community in recognition of Dr. Poss’ outstanding service to her students, on the occasion of her retirement as principal. The Olathe Public Schools Foundation will award one $1,500 Gwen and Gary Poss A.V.I.D. Scholarship annually to an Olathe Northwest senior.

In memory of Hazel M. Ford, the English department at Olathe North selects an outstanding student to receive a $500 scholarship.

Hidden Glen Arts Festival Scholarship for Visual Artists

The Hidden Glen Arts Festival Board of Directors has established this scholarship fund to encourage future generations of visual artists.

Olathe Public Schools high school seniors who demonstrate a genuine interest in pursuing a career in the visual arts.

Four Olathe high school seniors will be selected to receive a $1,000 scholarship.

Jerad Bickford Memorial Scholarship

Jerad graduated Olathe Northwest High School in 2008 and actively involved himself in the school’s 21st Century Program, Aerospace and Engineering and was one of the founding members of FIRST Robotics Team 1710.

Jewett Insurance Agency Scholarship for Cheer Team Members

This scholarship was established by the Jewett Family and the Jewett Insurance Agency in recognition of the outstanding educational and extra-curricular experiences the Jewett siblings enjoyed at Olathe Northwest High School.

Jewett Insurance Agency Scholarship for ONW Bowling Team Members

This scholarship was established by the Jewett Family and the Jewett Insurance Agency in recognition of the outstanding educational and extra-curricular experiences the Jewett siblings enjoyed at Olathe Northwest High School.

Kathleen Macoubrie Smith Scholarship

Created by a legacy gift from Peggy Huggins in memory of her mother, Kathleen Macoubrie Smith, this scholarship recognizes the efforts of graduating seniors who plan to study English at the University of Kansas.

Eligible Students:
Olathe high school seniors or graduates who plan to major in English (or Education with an emphasis in English) at the University of Kansas.

Keith E. Barnes Memorial Scholarship

Created in memory of Olathe high school science teacher Keith "Corky" Barnes, this scholarship will award one $10,000 scholarship to a graduating senior from Olathe North and Olathe South high schools pursuing a course of study in a science field.

Leon and Gretchen Brewer Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship was established in memory of Leon and Gretchen Brewer to provide academic scholarships to lower-income students graduating from the high schools in Olathe District Schools who plan to attend college with a goal of becoming a teacher.

Nancy E. House Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship was founded to honor Nancy E. House, who was a math teacher at Olathe South High School for 10 years. Nancy passed away suddenly in 2015, leaving her family, students and colleagues who cared for her dearly. Nancy was a gifted teacher, who possessed the traits needed to nurture each and every one of her students, even if they were not excelling in her course, or in others.

The Olathe High School Alumni Association supports this annual scholarship to a senior at Olathe North.

Olathe Public Schools Retired Employees Association (Olathe Public Schools-REA) Scholarship

The Olathe Retired Employees Association supports this annual scholarship for students pursuing a degree in education.

Eligible Students:
Olathe high school seniors pursuing a degree in education and a teaching career; must have a 3.0 unweighted GPA.
Amount of Scholarship:
A scoring rubric will be used by a selection committee to rate all applications from each high school. A maximum of two (2) $1,000 scholarships will be presented.

Pamela Murphy Memorial Mentoring Scholarship

Established in memory of longtime school district mentor and volunteer, Pam Murphy. This scholarship awards two $500 scholarships to Olathe high school seniors who have worked with an adult volunteer through the district’s Youth Mentor program (formerly YouthFriends) during their school career. Students must have also participated in at least eight hours of community service.

Eligible Students:
Olathe high school seniors who have had a Youth Mentor during their academic career; must have at least a 2.0 GPA; plans to pursue advanced learning at a university or vocational school.

R.R. Osborne Scholarship

This scholarship was established in memory of Robert R. Osborne to provide academic scholarships to students graduating from the high schools in Olathe District Schools who choose to pursue a career in business, education or medicine.  The Olathe Public Schools Foundation will award an R.R. Osborne Scholarship annually to one graduating senior at each of the district’s high schools.

Eligible Students:
Olathe high school seniors who plan to pursue a career in business, education or medicine.

One student from each high school will receive a $5,000 scholarship, over four years.

Ralph Dennis - Olathe High School Alumni Association Scholarship

The Olathe High School Alumni Association supports this annual scholarship in honor of former Olathe North teacher and coach, Ralph Dennis.

Rob Jones Memorial Scholarship

Friends and family members of Rob Jones established this scholarship in his memory to provide a scholarship for an outstanding member of the Olathe South baseball team.

Ruth Ann Hackler Scholarship

Olathe High School, Class of 1953 has established a scholarship in honor of Mrs. Ruth Ann Hackler. Mrs. Hackler taught business classes at Olathe High School.

Spencer Duncan Memorial Scholarship

Spencer Duncan was a 2008 graduate of Olathe South High School. After graduating from high school, Spencer enlisted in the United States Army Reserves in June of 2008. His unit was deployed to Operation Enduring Freedom in March of 2011. He served his country with honor and paid the ultimate price for our freedom.  In his memory, the American Legion Riders, Post 153, Olathe have established this scholarship with the Olathe Public Schools Foundation.

SupplyWorks Building a Better Future Scholarship

This scholarship was funded by SupplyWorks, a one-stop shop for building maintenance solutions, in support of the outstanding contribution made to the success of Olathe Public Schools by the building custodial staff.  Each year, two to six scholarships will be awarded to direct dependents of Olathe District custodial staff, ranging from $500 to $1,500.

Olathe District custodial staff, their spouses, their children, their stepchildren

Tara Peck Memorial Scholarship

Friends and family members of Tara Peck established this scholarship in her memory to provide a scholarship for outstanding Olathe South student athletes. Tara was not just an All-America Soccer player; she really was an All-America Person. Her smile would light up a room and her determination and drive for excellence was what helped make Tara stand out from the crowd. The intent and meaning of this scholarship award is more than just a one-time scholarship for these student-athletes. The students who receive this award reflect the upstanding character of all of the nominees, and for many of the students at Olathe South.

W. Edgar Moore and Maron J. Moore Memorial Scholarship

These scholarships were established as a lasting legacy by noted Olathe philanthropists W. Edgar Moore and Maron J. Moore.  It was their desire to recognize outstanding seniors from Olathe East High School.  The Olathe Public Schools Foundation will award a $1,500 W. Edgar Moore and Maron J. Moore Memorial Scholarship annually to two Olathe East seniors, one male and one female.
