Laptop Lending Library
Brad Hankins, Olathe North High School, $4,800

Some students who ride the bus are not able to stay after school to use the computers and do not have transportation to the public library. This grant provides a laptop computer lending library to students who do not have technology in their homes. Students may now check out the laptop to complete their assignments.

Reading Rocks!
Janis Waggoner, Indian Creek Elementary School, $985

Four different evening sessions throughout the year will provide training for Title I school parents on how they can become more effective teachers of their own children and promote parent involvement in the areas of reading and writing. Parents will make and take home games as well as other materials vital to extended learning during the summer months.

Leap Into Learning
Lori Hoisington, Rolling Ridge Elementary School, $995

Leapfrog learning games can be personalized for the individual academic needs of these second grade students providing a fun and game-like approach to learning at school and at home.

Sensory Integration
Melissa Thomas & Shelle Ellis, Walnut Grove Elementary School, $1,000

Dizzy disks, rolling pins, ball tunnels, cuddle loops and wiggle seats are sensory input tools which are important to the overall behavioral, social, motor, and cognitive development of these early childhood disability students. Special Education teachers and occupational therapists will work together to incorporate kinesthetic learning into the everyday environment, increasing the ability to attend to task, learn new information and control behaviors.
