My Students:
SFT/WA has many students in need of additional therapeutic support struggling with depression, anxiety, or a variety of other situations. We also house the district Trauma Informed Care/Emotionally Disturbed Program at SFT due to the rise in students struggling with mental illness, self-control and self-regulation and previous history of trauma.
My Project:
Our goal is to help students achieve emotional regulation using a variety of unique strategies and tools and would therefore like to implement a trained therapy dog for this purpose. For many of these situations, it means removing the student from the classroom to decrease their exposure and embarrassment in front of peers and allowing them to have access to various emotional/behavioral supports by utilizing these tools to assist them in returning to their academics successfully.
My Students Need:
SFT needs additional innovative and untraditional strategies to meet a variety of emotional and behavioral needs for our unique student population.
