Women's Giving Circle Awards $15,000 Grant

On April 24, over 150 amazing women gathered and heard presentations on three innovative programs impacting Olathe students.  After discussing each proposal, the Women's Giving Circle attendees voted for their favorite and awarded a $15,000 grant to fund the project. This year’s winning proposal was “Tower to Table,” written by April Schoenberg from Northview Elementary, and Ariel Jankord from Briarwood Elementary.
Tower to TableTower to TableThe “Tower to Table” grant will provide tower gardens, Ninja blenders and the corresponding Green Bronx Machine curriculum. Six tower gardens will be located at each elementary school. This will allow Northview Elementary and Briarwood Elementary schools to grow indoor tower gardens year-round. The goal of this program is to create opportunities for students to collaborate with peers and build awareness of their environment and their future. Students will build responsibility for healthy eating choices and develop teamwork skills as they communicate, make decisions, and care for their plants.
The Olathe Women's Giving Circle has awarded $105,000 in grants to Olathe classrooms since Spring 2014.
The Spring 2018 event was hosted by Sustaining Member Els Thermote and held at TVH Parts Co. in Olathe.
