#GivingTuesday: Avid Lifetime Learners (A.L.L.) Fund

#GivingTuesday Success at the OPSF!

A sincere thank you to all our OPSF supporters and #GivingTuesday donors! Yesterday (11/27), our fundraising efforts shined a spotlight on The A.L.L. Fund, which helps Olathe high school students pay fees and tuition associated with earning college credit for AP classes. Thanks to your generosity, and a partnership with Capitol Federal, over $6,000 was raised to incentivize students to continue on the path to a post-secondary education. That’s nearly 65 college credit hours donated to deserving Olathe high school students!!!

#GivingTuesday is a global giving movement that has been built by individuals, families, organizations, businesses and communities all around the world. Millions of people come together on one day to support and champion the causes they believe in. Thank you for believing in the OPSF - and thank you for supporting the children of our amazing community!!!

OPSF Selects A.L.L. Fund for Global Day of Giving

Foundation partner, Capitol Federal Savings, matches first $3,000 in #GivingTuesday gifts

On Tuesday, November 27, the OPSF will participate in #GivingTuesday, a movement to create an international day of giving at the beginning of the holiday season. Proceeds will benefit the A.L.L. Fund, which helps qualifying students pay tuition and fees associated with earning college credit for AP classes. The fund also assists students with the cost of college prep exams such as ACT testing.

The fund, which was started in 2010 as a tribute to former Olathe superintendent Dr. Pat All, provided $30,000 in assistance to juniors and seniors at Olathe’s five high schools this year alone. These funds are in high demand yet our resources are quickly diminishing.

While gifts to the A.L.L. Fund are accepted throughout the year, those received on #GivingTuesday will be matched dollar-for-dollar, up to $3,000, thanks to Foundation partner, Capitol Federal Savings. “Capitol Federal Savings is happy to partner with the OPSF to provide a matching gift towards the A.L.L. Fund on this global day of giving,” said Mimi Eckart, Vice President, Retail Banking Manager, Capitol Federal Savings. “As a financial institution, we certainly see the value of earning college credit at a more affordable price and lowering a student’s overall college debt.”

While compiling your “Nice List” this holiday season, please remember to include OPSF and the A.L.L. Fund. The corporate match will go live online at midnight on Tuesday, November 27th.

The Faces of The A.L.L. Fund

#GivingTuesday has arrived! Join this global movement today by making a gift to the OPSF A.L.L. Fund and help qualifying Olathe high school students, like Fern, Nathanial and Katie, earn college credit for classes they are already taking! Fees associated with earning college credit from taking AP classes are financially out of reach for many Olathe families. Can you imagine taking a college level class in high school, but not earning proper college credit because you could not afford the $93 per credit hour tuition cost? The OPSF can’t imagine it either! But without your help, this fund may not be available to deserving students for much longer.

REAL STUDENTS. REAL STORIES. REAL IMPACT!

  • Fern, the second person in her family to attend college, will head to KU in the fall to become a pediatric nurse. Fern enrolled in AP classes to earn college credit and lower her class load each semester at KU, allowing her to work while in school full-time. She will use that income to help pay for school and reduce her college debt after graduation. With the support of the A.L.L. Fund, and lots of hard work, Fern will graduate high school with 16 hours of college credit. With a donation of just $93, you help a hard-working Olathe student like Fern earn an hour of college credit. And today, you can DOGO – Donate One credit hour and Get One FREE, thanks to our friends from Capitol Federal who are matching all gifts to the A.L.L. Fund. Click here to donate now, remember to select the A.L.L. Fund.
  • Nathaniel, an Olathe senior, dreams of being a performance major and playing the euphonium in a military brass band. By getting his college prerequisite classes out of the way while still in high school, Nathanial can focus on his music while attending university. Nathaniel’s parents both work and are dedicated to supporting both their children’s interests, but like many families they must prioritize their budget. “It might seem like a small thing to some, but any family in our situation knows what a blessing the A.L.L. Fund is,” said Jason M., Nathanial’s father and Olathe teacher. For just $7.75 per month, you can give the gift of one credit hour a year for a high school student who qualifies for support. Set up your monthly donation by going here.
  • Raised by a single parent, Katie comes from a family where saving is a priority. Only a junior, she is just now starting to think about college. Thanks to the A.L.L. Fund, Katie will graduate high school with several hours of college credit paid for at about half the cost of tuition at a university. This money saved will be used to help Katie pay for the remainder of her post-secondary education. When your donation of $46.50 is matched by Capitol Federal on #GivingTuesday, your gift instantly becomes $93 and will provide one hour of college credit to a smart and financially savvy student like Katie. Click here to donate now, remember to select the A.L.L. Fund.

Thanks for your support of the OPSF and for considering a gift to the A.L.L. Fund on this #GivingTuesday!!

Facebook Live!
Join us Tuesday, Nov. 27 at 2:15 p.m. as we go LIVE on Facebook with
Dr. Pat All, for whom the fund was named, OPSF Executive Director, Cindy VonFeldt and Fern, an Olathe senior who is grateful for the support she received from the A.L.L. Fund and is off to college in the fall with dreams of becoming a pediatric nurse.

Without this fund many students would be forced to forgo earning college credit for the classes they are already taking. The conversion rate is currently $93 per credit hour. While this represents about half the cost most universities charge per credit hour, the expense is prohibitive for our most vulnerable students. And since many of these classes are required to earn a college degree, students would be taking them twice and at a higher rate, adding to the cost of their college tuition.
