Azalia's Story

Last Spring Azalia Morales, a recent graduate of the Olathe Advanced Technical Center (OATC),  contacted the Foundation for assistance in providing $1,500 in scholarships to students graduating from the OATC. Azalia had saved the money from her three jobs while attending KCK Community College because she wanted to give back to those who supported her in school.

“Azalia is an amazing young woman,” said Cindy VonFeldt, OPSF Executive Director. “She was so committed to giving back to these students who were following her and to honor the teachers that meant so much to her success that she just wanted to make a difference.”

District parents Mike and Julie Hirons, who were in attendance the night Azalia’s scholarships were awarded, were so inspired by her story that they decided they too should contribute to OATC scholarships. This put things in motion to establish the Azalia Morales Career and Technical Education Fund.

Breakfast attendees had the opportunity to hear Azalia’s story and contribute to the scholarship fund. Their contributions helped raise over $30,000, ensuring funds will be available indefinitely into the future.
