My Students:
Westview is a Title 1 building with 76% of our students coming from economically disadvantaged homes. We provide an after school club for 36 Westview students in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd grades because many of our families cannot afford outside activities. Twelve 5th grade, middle and high school students act as coach leaders for the younger participants.
My Project:
48 Olathe students participate in our soccer club. Being in a club builds a sense of working together and a sense of belonging. This sense of belonging can be exemplified by a team shirt. Past grants have funded balls, goals and cones, but we need shirts to create comradery! “Kids who participate consistently in sports attend school more, are more community and civic minded, get in less trouble, and tend to be more successful in the workplace." We want our kids to reap all these benefits.
My Students Need:
The WV Soccer Club participants need T-shirts to wear to Soccer Club to show team spirit and unity; being a part of something larger than one’s self gives life a purpose!
